Bioethics Today Series: Parthenotes: Overlooked in the Ethics of Embryo Research Debate

We're delighted to begin a new series highlighting reproductive medicine blog posts written by Lisa Campo-Engelstein, PhD, from the Alden March Bioethics Institute at Albany Medical College for BIOETHICS TODAY.  Dr. Campo-Engelstein's main research areas include reproductive ethics (particularly contraception, oncofertility, birth, and embry and parthenote research), gender and medicine, cancer ethics, and international bioethics (especially Costa Rica).  

Global Partners Honored at Japan Society for Reproductive Psychology Conference

Members of the Japanese Society for Fertility Preservation were honored for their work at a conference in Japan on Sunday. Drs. Nao Suzuki, Kouhei Sugimoto, and Tomoe Koizumi attended the 13th Annual Japan Society for Reproductive Psychology Conference. Tomoe received an award for her oral presentation and Kouhei received a prize for his poster presentation. The JSFP has been an active member of the Oncofertility Global Partners Network and we are thrilled to share their success. Congratulations to Tomoe and Kouhei on a job well done!!

Presentations from the 2015 Conference- Amander Clark, PhD

Dr. Amander Clark, PhD (Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Molecular Cell and Developmental Biology, Director of the Embryonic Stem Cell Derivation laboratory and Key member of the Eli and Edythe Broad Center of Regenerative and Stem Cell Research at the University of California Los Angeles) delivered a fantastic talk at the 2015 Conference. Her reserach focuses on on the use of pluripotent stem cells to understand the cell and molecular basis of human reproduction and embryo development, with a focus on germline epigenetic reprogramming.

National Conference on Work & Cancer

The Oncofertility Consortium is pleased to partner with Cancer and Careers on the 6th Annual National Conference on Work & Cancer on Friday, June 17th, 2016 in New York City! 

This FREE conference will explore the complexities working people face as they try to balance their cancer treatment and recovery with employment. Topics will include Job Search, Legal Issues, Health Insurance, Working During Treatment, and more. CEUs will be offered for oncology nurses and social workers. Travel scholarships are available! 

Presentations from the 2015 Conference- Advances in Vitrification of Ovarian Tissue and Follicles in Primates, Mary Zelinski, PhD

Dr. Mary Zelinski is an Associate Scientist in the Division of Reproductive & Developmental Sciences, and Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Oregon Health & Science University. Her research centers on understanding the development and function of primate ovarian follicles.   She is currently developing ovarian tissue vitrification and follicle culture as novel options for female fertility preservation.

Leader of the Brazilian Oncofertility Consortium Wins a Recognized Research Prize in Brazil

Dr. Jhenifer Rodrigues recently was awarded a prestigious prize for her PhD disseration. Below is a blog from Dr. Rodrigues highlighting her success:

The researcher and leader of the Brazilian Oncofertility Consrtium, Dr. Jhenifer Rodrigues, PhD,  won an important prize in research in Brazil,  the Capes Thesis Award 2015, in recognition of a project developed as her Doctoral thesis in 2014.

The project, developed under the guidance of the professors Dr. Richard L Stouffer, PhD and Dr. Mary Zelinski, PhD from Oregon Health and Science University, USA, and also the professor Dr. Paula Navarro, PhD ( Human Reproduction Division from Ribeirão Preto School of Medicine (FMRP), USP, was funded in part by The Oncofertility Consortium and Fogarty.

Today's feature is Dr. Woodruff's presentation from the 2015 Oncofertility Consortium Conference.

Dr. Woodruff's talk touched on three main points:

1. Updates on encapsulated in vitro follicle growth

2. New data on medical mitigation strategies

3. Next generation biomaterials and tissue scaffolds for tissue transplant
